Rise in referrals is down to consultants

I'm not surprised by the story about GP referrals.

The consultants not being 'allowed' to do referrals is a big issue. The number of letters I get back saying 'X ruled out, please refer to Y specialty' are on the up and up.

I had a letter from an orthopaedic colleague the other day asking for a patient, under his care, to be referred back to him for a different operation relating to the same problem!
