Rolls Royce service runs to a halt

Dr Phillip Fielding, Gloucestershire LMC's appraisal lead, says the county had a Rolls Royce service until April when its PCTs decided to stop all funding for appraisers and locum appraisees.

Despite a letter from the strategic health authority warning that it has to fund the scheme, the newly merged PCT has yet to change tack and expects GPs to pay for their own appraisals. Only two GPs have so far done so.

Dr Fielding says: 'It's a chance to get off the conveyor belt and actually think about the doctor themselves for a change.'
