Save a life then back to the quiz

Dr Claire Rigby helped revive a fellow contestant in a pub quiz from a heart attack, then continued in the contest.

Dr Rigby, a GP in Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire, was with her husband Mike, an orthopaedic registrar, at their local pub when an elderly woman collapsed.

He gave the woman a precordial thump which restarted her heart, and then Dr Rigby waited for paramedics so she could give atropine to treat the woman's slow heart rate.

'It was a frightening time when I didn't have any drugs,' said Dr Rigby. 'We had to sit there for maybe 15 minutes while she had a pulse of 20.'

The quiz then continued Dr Rigby's team came in sixth out of eight teams.

The patient has since had a pacemaker fitted.
