Scotland tries to calm fears of thiomersal

The campaign to convince parents that thiomersal in vaccines is not linked to brain disorders will be extended to Scotland in the wake of more adverse media reports.

The Scottish Executive has sent GPs a breakdown of parental concerns, particularly about why whole-cell DTP is still used when the acellular vaccine is available and does not contain thiomersal.

The letter also referred to a Committee on Safety of Medicines report that said there was no evidence thiomersal in vaccines caused harm.
