Sessional GPs warn against two-tier regulation system

Sessional GPs are warning against the creation of a two-tier system of regulation which would mean they have to go through a more stringent recertification process.

In his report Good Doctors, Safer Patients, Sir Liam Donaldson said locum doctors 'represent a special challenge for regulation'.

One of his proposals is for practices to complete feedback forms at the end of every locum GPs' period of employment to be sent to a GMC affiliate.

But Dr Richard Fieldhouse, chief executive of the National Association of Sessional GPs, said revalidation should be the same for every GP: 'I don't think any GP would want to see a two- tier system. It would create more problems than it's worth.'

Feedback forms would make it even harder for locum doctors to interact with practice staff, he added.
