Single IOS fee to remain in new contract

A single item-of-service fee, for treating temporary residents, is set to remain in the new contract.

The move is a victory for GPs in tourist areas, who argued they would lose out if the fee was scrapped.

GPC negotiator Dr Laurence Buckman said: 'It's not relevant to Barnet but it's very relevant in Bournemouth.'

But NHS Confederation negotiator Chris Town said: 'Ironically doctors are trying to create bureaucracy when we are trying to destroy it.'
