Singlehanded GPs urged to join forces

Singlehanded GPs will find 'power in numbers' under the new GP contract, according to a member of the negotiating team.

Former GPC Wales chair Dr Tony Calland said collaboration between small practices would give them greater strength if they have to protest against decisions made by their primary care organisation. Joining forces would also create more earning opportunities.

'The larger the group, the greater the strength if you have a rogue primary care organisation,' he said.

'The local and national enhanced services will be an opportunity for practices to get extra resources by using a GP with special skills to work for several practices.'
