'Small practices will be penalised'

Dr Dearbhla Harley is worried about the effect of the new contract on small practices.

Dr Harley, a GP in a two-partner practice in Portstewart, County Londonderry, is 'quite positive' about the contract overall. But she is upset the Carr-Hill formula does not take account of the extra costs of small practices.

'We have to employ a large number of staff relative to a bigger practice,' she said. 'They could have an advantage.'
