Smoking team's practice triumph
The Moss Grove Surgery in Kingswinford, West Midlands, has been chosen as the second quarterly winner of Pulse's Proud of Our Practice campaign.
Smoking cessation rates at the practice have more than doubled to about 80 per cent since two receptionists were trained to hold the clinics.
The receptionists, Stephanie Parry and Jenny Cox have now helped well over 100 patients
Dr Stephen Parnell, GP at the practice, said: 'I'm thrilled for the team. This was an innovation that involved not just doctors and nurses but the practice manager and the receptionists and it's nice that everyone can be involved directly in improving patient care.
'I'm particularly thrilled for the individuals who joined us as receptionists and then found themselves providing a service that wins awards nationally.'
Pulse editor Jo Haynes said: 'Everyone at the Moss Grove Surgery can be proud of their achievements. Smoking cessation is always a difficult area for practices to tackle and in getting receptionists to take on the work, the practice has found a very successful solution'.
The GPs and staff at the practice have won a meal out worth £500 at a restaurant of their choice.
•Thank you to everyone that has entered their practice.
The final batches of mugs will be going out shortly and certificates will be on their way to the weekly award winners (see right).
