Spotting signs of abuse

Over-protective fathers and single parents

who blame problems on their child are potential indicators of child abuse, according to Dr Anna Wilson.

Dr Wilson, a GP specialist in child protection in Winchester, said rough handling of children in the waiting room was also a warning sign. She said practice staff as well as GPs needed to be given training to pick up signs of potential abuse.

Dr Wilson added: 'We have a saying: "if

it can't cruise it can't bruise". If a baby

isn't mobile yet and has bruises then

that is a serious concern.''
