Steroid injection benefits

Thousands of patients could benefit from multiple steroid injections for frozen shoulder, a systematic review concludes.Multiple injections appear to be significantly more effective than the more common practice of injecting only once.

The review, which has been accepted by the British Journal of General Practice, was conducted by Dr Nicholas Shah, a GP in Birkenhead, Merseyside.

Dr Shah reviewed four high-quality studies, three of which showed the benefits of the use of multiple steroid injections in reducing pain, improving function and increasing the range of shoulder movement.

Dr Shah, who has a masters degree in sport injuries, said: 'Most people tend to only give one injection. However it seems to be the case that more than one is helpful.'
