Paracetamol 'raises asthma risk'

27 Aug 09

Paracetamol may increase the risk of asthma and wheezing in both children and adults, Canadian researchers claim.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of six studies - involving a total of 425,140 subjects - found use of paracetamol increased the risk of developing asthma by 63%.

There was also a 28% increase in the risk of asthma and wheezing in babies born to women who used acetaminophen while pregnant.
