PCT signs deal with iWantGreatCare
03 Nov 09
GPs in Milton Keynes are set to be come the most publicly scrutinised in the country after a deal between the PCT and online ratings site iWantGreatCare.org.
It will see continuous patient feedback tracked in real-time by the PCT, including anonymous ratings and reviews of individual doctors which will be shared with the public.
The deal comes just two weeks after the launch of nationwide GP practice ratings on the NHS Choices website.
Gillian Prager, director of clinical standards and engagement at NHS Milton Keynes, said the 'innovative collaboration' would ensure the PCT had access to 'vital patient feedback'.
'By sharing this with local GPs and using the information we will improve health services.'
And Dr Neil Bacon, founder and CEO of iWantGreatCare, added: 'NHS Milton Keynes is at the leading edge of a movement to continuously understand the experience of care through the eyes of patients and carers.'
'By having a real-time view of the actual experience of their care, individual clinicians and the local NHS will be able to proactively improve their services for individual patients and their carers.'

Hands up who didn't tell MKPCT about NHS Choices then?
Recession? Public spending cuts? Not in MKPCT-land it seems. As Paul Smith says above, who didn't tell them about the free NHS Choices service?
One of the main differences between NHS Choices and iWGC is that with iWGC you rate and review the individual clinician and not the practice. Also the patient comments stay as patients intend... no editing by the moderator... of course site has usual and essential protectin against abuse... but real patient feedback is not 'doctored' !
Would that be Michaela Firth, WCC PPI Programme Manager at Milton Keynes PCT by any chance? (http://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelafirth). I guess you'll have signed the contract so you have to defend it. You must have been persuaded by Dr Bacon at this conference at which you both hosted workshops (http://tinyurl.com/yjwl5sa). I'm surprised you're so dismissive of moderation. Isn't it meant to be a good thing? A safeguard? Isn't that why BBC, NHS Choices and other major sites do it? To prevent abuse?
Is there a site where we can name and shame individuals working for PCTs......? This will improve efficiency in primary care more than anything.
