We believe only a united profession can retain its strength and independence. But the dwindling number of partnerships threatens that unity, and with it the independent-contractor model, which has promoted innovation and allows GPs to be advocates for their patients. Holding the profession together will require urgent action. This action should include:

• Negotiating incentives, either nationally or locally, to support practices in creating new partnership positions

• Holding an open debate and vote on options for strengthening representation of sessional GPs within the BMA

• Bringing together all relevant parties, including the BMA, RCGP and NASGP, to discuss the wording and implementation of the model salaried contract

To get involved, offer your support for our campaign statement and tell us of your own experiences creating or applying for partnerships. Add you name to the comment box below, at the bottom of the page, or email onevoice@pulsetoday.co.uk.
