GPs are set to be handed responsibility for all swine flu queries after the Government announced that the National Pandemic Flu Service is to shut down next Thursday.

The service will close at 1am on 11 February, after which patients will be urged to contact their GP instead. The Department of Health has stated the service can be reinstated within seven days if required.

Antiviral prescription will also return to normal from next month. GPs are advised that they can continue to make antivirals available to all patients with influenza like illness until the end of March 2010.
