Statins significantly improve renal function in patients with CHD. A Greek study found 704 CHD patients with normal renal function who were not treated showed a decline in creatinine clearance of 5.2 per cent over three years.

In contrast, 97 usual care patients on various statins had a 4.9 per cent increase in creatinine clearance.
