'System is to blame, not GPs'

Dr Ian Millington says the new home oxygen system is still not operating properly in his area – with services that were promised failing to materialise.

Dr Millington, secretary of Morgannwg LMC, said: 'Patients should be assessed and ordering done by the assessor. In areas of Wales, this service is not set up.'

He said care could suffer as a result of the money wasted: 'It's going to come from somewhere.'

He rejected accusations that GPs were mis-ordering oxygen, insisting the order forms were poorly designed.

'As many as 30 per cent of forms are being returned – if 30 per cent are being returned that suggests the form is bad.'
