A faulty production line

Take out of hours back? My arse!

Copperfield would rather eat his own head than go anywhere near OOH again.

Copperfield would rather eat his own head than go anywhere near OOH again.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!!

And nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

And lots of retching noises, if only I knew how to spell them. Swearing, too, using worse words than I can write here. ‘Arse' I can probably get away with. So, ‘Arse', then. A thousand arses.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrssssssssssssssssssse, in fact.

So what has provoked this outburst? Well, I reckon about half of you will know. Because it seems that our profession is split down the middle about whether or not we should be taking back responsibility for out of hours care.

Normally, there are two sides to an argument, and this is supported by the fact that the LMC vote was virtually fifty-fifty. So clearly I'm missing something. Because I would rather eat my own head than go anywhere near OOH again.

What's going on? Is it the practice based commissioning enthusiasts anticipating some sort of triumph (in which case, they'll get what they deserve)?

Is it our leaders trying to reclaim territory to buy some political leverage (bit late for that)?

Or is it the bleeding hearts worried about the standard of care being received by our patients (in which case they can just sod off)?

Yes, I know they're ‘only' talking about us resuming responsibility for OOH rather than actually doing the donkey-work ourselves.

But that's still a hell of a responsibility, and one that I've been thrilled to dump in the PCT's lap for the last few years.

Besides, anything that even so much as edges me one millimetre back towards OOH brings me out in hives.

So, OOH? Ooh nnnnnooooooooo……..

Anything that even so much as edges me one millimetre back towards OOH brings me out in hives.
