Thanks Gordon, dual registration was set for chaos

From Dr Anand Deshpande, Westhoughton, Lancashire

Never before have I had an opportunity to thank a politician in public, but I must thank Gordon Brown for scuppering dual registration (News, 12 January).

Sense has prevailed as dual registration would have been chaos. It caters for the affluent and wastes our valuable time.

It might be fine for chain stores such as Marks & Spencer to allow customers to return goods in any branch in the country just because they changed their mind but, when it comes to health, dual registration is more prone to create neuroticism than to make a patient better.
