The future calls...and it's 12,000 miles away

With my ePortfolio nearing completion ready for the CRAP... sorry CRP panel ready to asses it is now time to look forward to my future.

With my ePortfolio nearing completion ready for the CRAP... sorry CRP panel ready to asses it is now time to look forward to my future.

A few weeks ago it was time for my appraisal done in our scheme by another GPR plus an observer in a "trio" set-up.

No, that's not some strange ritual involving the tasty chocolate bar of the 80's, though the questions asked did offer some food for thought.

"Where do you see yourself in 12 months time" was asked – my reply was based upon the fact that I have now formally accepted a post in Australia to commence in the middle of January. Unlike the UK, finding a GP job in Australia wasn't a struggle.

I see at last the our "trade union" has decided to fight back against the last year or two of anti-GP spin by Blair/Brown and their cronies.

The Save Our Surgeroes campaign certainly offers a message which I think patients will understand. Only time will tell though if it is too late to halt the tidal wave of APMS.

And so, as mentioned, Australia beckons and here starts the process of getting my FRACGP and visa amongst the other hurdles of re-locating to the other side of the word.

I then have to learn all about the Medicare system, billing my patient and then most importantly how to surf. Until then though it's time to look into locum work – more on that soon.
