Trimethoprim OTC would be a disaster

I read about the decision to make the first mainstream antibiotic and my first thought was absolutely not!

Cystitis-type symptoms can be caused by other problems, such as thrush and atrophic vaginitis. It's only by the doctor asking the right questions and, if necessary, examining the patient that correct diagnosis can be made and treatment given.

This will be disastrous and certainly increase resistance in the community. And unless recurrent haematuria is picked up there will also be missed cancer diagnoses.

What are these people thinking?
