US tightens indications for HRT use

The US health and safety watchdog has launched an information campaign on HRT after trials highlighted increased heart and cancer risks.

The US Food and Drug Administration has produced an evidence-based menopause and HRT factsheet that suggests questions patients should ask health professionals.

It is urging patients to use 'the lowest dose for the least duration' to provide relief and stresses that HRT containing oestrogen and progestogen should only be used when benefits clearly outweigh risks.
