Vandals force surgery closure

From Dr JP Dias, QOF assessor

Mid Sussex PCT

While I agree telephone review may have a role to play in overall asthma management (News, 5 November), the specification for an asthma review is clearly set out in the Blue Book.

This stipulates that the review should include a measurement of PEFR and a check on inhaler technique.

Although it could be argued PEFR could be self-reported by the patient if they have a meter (though the contract says it should actually be measured), I cannot see how inhaler technique can be assessed

by phone consultation.

It is difficult to justify not assessing technique from one year to the next, particularly in the young and very elderly.
