Dr Beth McCarron-Nash comes in at number 22 in the 2013 Pulse Power 50. She has fallen one place from last year’s list.
The failure of Dr Beth McCarron-Nash to make the 2012-13 GPC negotiating team had fallout beyond the loss of a bright young negotiator.
The LMCs conference, among other forums, criticised the lack of female representation at the top of the profession.
The Truro GP was not quiet during her time out, holding roles on the executive boards of the Centre for Workforce Intelligence and the Self Care Forum, and continuing to speak out for sessional GPs and against the quality premium. So it is no surprise that she has been voted back where she belongs.
Of the renewed trust placed in her as a negotiator, she says: ‘I am ready for that challenge.’
As the negotiating team’s training lead (among other areas), her priority next year it to fight for general practice to again become a career which young people want to join.
She vows: ‘[Working in general practice] is an amazing privilege and although it may not feel like it now is a career with diverse opportunities. General practice is changing. We need young blood with the skills, drive and commitment to ensure it doesn’t just survive but thrives for us and our patients. I will do all I can to ensure it does.’
