Wales hails GP incentive successes

The National Assembly for Wales has hailed its 'golden hello' and 'golden thanks' incentive schemes a success, yet it has failed to provide crucial figures to support the claim.

In the scheme's first year, from January to September 2002, 102 GPs took advantage of the £5,000 golden hello payments, and 378 GPs took up the £1,000-a-year 'golden thanks' for doctors nearing retirement.

But the assembley figures did not include the net increase of GPs over the same period.
