Warning on single mumps vaccine

The Committee on Safety of Medicines has told GPs not to use the unlicensed single mumps vaccine Pavivac because of concerns about its safety, quality and efficacy.

The CSM said a 'number of major questions' remained unanswered about the manufacture, testing and storage of the vaccine, made by Seva-pharma. Unlicensed vaccines can be imported for individuals if the equivalent licensed vaccine is unsuitable.
