What about phone review?

Respiratory experts have expressed dismay that the new QOF guidance does not provide clarity over whether annual asthma reviews can be done by telephone.

The guidance was supposed to resolve the issue but instead has sidestepped it.

NHS Employers told Pulse the matter was still being discussed by an arbitration panel.

Dr Chris Woodforde, GP fellow in respiratory health at Halton PCT in Cheshire, said: 'It's very urgent. People are still doing opportunistic reviews but it would be nice to have some guidance as to whether they're going to count or not!'

Dr Dermot Ryan, member of the General Practice Airways Group and a GP in Loughborough, Leicestershire, said the failure to provide guidance might make some GPs 'think twice' about reviewing by telephone.
