Why ban Kava when it works?

I was pleased to see the article 'Complementary therapies: what works, what doesn't' (Features, September 15).

It says there is good evidence to show Kava is effective for reducing anxiety.

This is true, however the Government passed an order prohibiting the supply of medicinal products containing Kava on January 13, 2002.
