Why GPs should boycott CMO's plans

From Dr Bruce Dunlop

Sir Liam Donaldson is clearly no psychologist. The proposals he has put forward (News, 20 July) will promote a 'catch me if you can' mentality. We can all pass tests and jump hoops it is what we have spent years doing.

There will be no improvement in the quality of care as a result of his changes. In fact the converse will be true. Trust is what professionalism is about. If we are not trusted to behave, we won't. It's simple.

The public are not disgusted with the profession despite years of being told by press and politicians they ought to be. It is these bodies that they are not happy with. The Government has for years been trying to tame the profession. Shipman gave them their excuse and now they are trying to milk it for all it is worth.

If we have any self-respect we will refuse to comply with these idiotic proposals.
