Why it's a dog's life with our pay rises

GPC negotiators were outmanoeuvred on a regular basis on our so-called pay rises which have been phased or downgraded. And they have now produced this abomination.

If I had to insure my dog it would cost me £300 a year, in the certain knowledge that I wouldn't be attending the vet every time the animal broke wind (which, incidentally, is too frequent for comfort). If pet insurance companies can fix £300 a year as a reasonable (to them) rate for the job why should we accept only a fraction of this? We would have to jump through more hoops than an Olympic gymnast to earn a modest fifth of what we should be earning.

We are supposed to be in short supply with a recruitment and retention crisis. There will never be a better time to negotiate from a position of strength, yet the negotiators can't do any better than turning us into data-crunching machines who have to hit more targets than a circus knife-throwing act.

My alternative would be £100 per patient per year for the core services of diagnosing and treating the sick, an extra £50 a year for health promotion (so we can opt out if we don't wish to do it) and private fees for everything else.

Forget your OBEs lads and grow some cojones!
