Why these multiple clinics must drive our patients mad

As a former fundholding GP, I found it to be better for my patients. When they needed a CT or ultrasound they would get an appointment within a few days rather than waiting for several months; operation waiting lists were also shorter. I did not, however, buy a Porsche with savings from fundholding.

Now in Essex there are more than 15 PCTs and one strategic health authority, employing even more managers and staff.

A lot of unnecessary money has been spent on administration. I hope this new fundholding, sorry, practice-based commissioning scheme will benefit the patients with less bureaucracy and less expense.
