Women may get MMR

MMR will be given to women of childbearing age who do not have rubella immunity if stocks of single rubella vaccine run out.

A worldwide shortage of the single vaccine prompted the Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation to recommend use of MMR as 'an appropriate alternative'.

The Department of Health said there was enough single rubella vaccine to fulfil the current contract which runs until the end of this year and it was inviting bids for next year's contract.
