Welsh GPs will vote on a motion to demand funding to assess their workloads at the annual Welsh LMCs conference next week.
The agenda for the first of the year’s LMC conferences, which will take place in Cardiff on 28 February, focuses heavily on workforce and workload issues, including calls to reject Welsh Government expectation on GPs to develop 8-8 working patterns.
Other motions include allowing GP practices to take control of their list sizes, amid capacity concerns.
In order to effectively assess workload, and allow for accurate planning for future workforce requirements, one motion calls for a DES to be created.
The motion says: ‘That conference instructs GPCW to urgently negotiate with Welsh Government, a Directed Enhanced Service to enable the collection of accurate practice workload statistics to inform effective workforce planning.’
Welsh GPs leaders will also debate whether practices should take over control over their list sizes from health boards and whether to demand more powers and autonomy for the Welsh GP clusters programme.
Last year’s Welsh LMCs conference saw a clash between Welsh health minister Professor Mark Drakeford and delegates, after he suggested it was ‘damagingly wrong’ for GPs to say there was a workforce crisis.
