The Welsh health secretary Vaughan Gething has announced a £40m to develop integrated health and social services centres across Wales as part of ‘significant ongoing investment’ to modernise NHS buildings and equipment.
He announced it will also help local health boards to speed up plans for new facilities in primary and community care.
Details have yet to be made public but he said he expected the funding to ‘bring forward a pipeline of new projects in every local health board in Wales’.
Mr Gething added: ‘We want people to be able to access health and social services in a modern, fit for purpose environment in their local community where possible.’
Dr Charlotte Jones, GPC Wales chair, said the need for adequate premises had never been greater with a widening gap between current provision and requirement and she welcomed the funding announcement.
‘We look forward to seeing details of these projects to ensure good value for money.’
But she added: ‘We must also not forget the need for investment in current premises, where needed, where little or no investment has been made and not just focus solely on new builds.’
