New vice chair elected to RCGP

The RCGP has announced that Dr Stephen Mowle, a GP from Clapham, has been elected as vice chair of the college.

He will take up the new role from the end of July this year and will work with the other vice chair Dr Nigel Mathers.

Dr Mowle's appointment follows the surprise resignation of former co-vice chair, Dr Janet Hall, just four mouths into the role, who cited ‘unforeseen circumstances' as her reason to leave.

Dr Mowle said: ‘I look forward to using my enthusiasm for patient care, my experience in GP education and my extensive prior involvement in regional, national and international RCGP committees to help me champion the role of the generalist and to enhance and promote the values of the college.'

RCGP chair Dr Clare Gerada said she was ‘delighted' at his appointment.

‘He brings with him extensive experience, excellent management skills and real understanding of the needs of patients, and I look forward to him joining our Officers' team,' she said.

Voting for the post closed at noon on 8 July, with a turnout of 81.3% of RCGP Council members.
