Dr Beth McCarron-Nash burst onto the scene in July 2008 when she became the first female GP negotiator elected since 1991 – and only the second in the history of the GPC.
A GP in Honiton, Devon, she has held several roles at the BMA, including Junior Members' Forum chair and deputy chair of the sessional GPs' committee, but it was her leadership of the BMA's Support Your Surgery campaign in late 2008 that really caught the eye.
This year she has been working hard to close the divide between salaried and partner GPs, and is part of the BMA's working group to improve the representation of salaried GPs and locums. Big things are expected.
What she says
‘The next five years will see a sea-change in the way general practice services are commissioned and delivered. It will be crucial that I, and whoever is elected in future, continues to champion the role of the independent contractor so general practice is an attractive profession for young doctors.'
