It has been nearly a year since Dr Kemple took over as RCGP president, with the mission of helping to ‘improve the experience (for everyone) of being a GP and a member of the RCGP’.

He tells Pulse one of his biggest achievements this year has been retiring from his Bristol practice after 33 years, but it doesn’t sound like he will be doing too much relaxing.

He says this year he wants it to be ‘recognised and appreciated that GPs are effective disease generalists and whole-patient specialists who manage a great diversity of complex patients, and provide continuity of care.’

Outside of the RCGP, his roles as an appraiser and specialist primary care advisor for the NIHR West of England Clinical Research Network will most certainly keep him busy over the next year and he is continuing with his work as chair of the ‘Green Impact for Health’ awards scheme.

Why influential: Figurehead of the RCGP

Surprising fact: Has run the London Marathon three times
