The National Association of Primary Care is 'a membership organisation for those involved in, or with an interest in, a primary care-led NHS'. The association is a 'not-for-profit' organisation with no political affiliation. It is one of the recognised 'big five' GP organisations along with the National Association of Primary Care, the NHS Alliance, the BMA and the RCGP.

The association aims to influence government policy to reflect its view that responsibility for the use of NHS resources should rest with those making decisions about care and that GP commissioning should be 'actively enabled to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients and tax payers'. The association is seen as being highly influential in shaping the government´s currently proposed reforms of the NHS.
