Learning objectives

This module  uses four hypothetical case studies to describe how four developing genetic techniques may impact on screening and public health:

  • Free foetal DNA analysis
  • Single nucleotide polymorphism arrays
  • Next-generation DNA sequencing
  • Pharmacogenetics

Dr Imran Rafi is a GP in Banstead, Surrey, senior lecturer in primary care education at St George's, University of London, and an executive council member of the Primary Care Genetics Society

Dr Kate Tatton-Brown is a consultant clinical geneticist at the South West Thames Regional Genetic Service.
