Wanted: your experiences of referral management

CCGs are under intense pressure to effectively manage - and where possible limit – secondary care referrals at the moment. But as a pointed motion at the LMCs conference last month showed, referral management systems are still highly contentious among GPs.

Now leading GP academic Professor Martin Roland is heading up a review into referral management – and he and his team in Cambridge want to hear from you.

What are you experiences of referral management centres, in-house review of referrals or financial incentives to reduce referrals? Professor Roland’s team has been commissioned to review what is known about strategies to improve the effectiveness and efficacy of outpatient services.

They are keen to hear from anyone who has experiences that could help them understand how well these interventions work in practice. They would also like to hear about schemes where consultants hold employment contracts with primary care organisations.

If you would like to share your experiences, email Professor Roland's team at referralmanagement@rand.org
