A former DH commissioning chief, Mark Britnell is one of the more charismatic civil servants to impact on general practice in recent years.

As the architect of the Labour's ill-fated World Class Commissioning scheme, and an advocate of the expansion of the market, many view this arch moderniser as a trailblazer for the current reforms agenda.

Now a partner and head of healthcare at private firm KPMG, he remains an influential force.
