2,000 GP practices begin CQC registration

Two thousand GP practices have already created their online account with the CQC less than a week after all practices in the country were sent invitation letters with the required entry codes.

The letters were sent out last week inviting each practice to create an online account with the CQC and choose one of four windows, from September through to December this year, by when they have to submit all the information for registration. Click here to download the letter.

The CQC encouraged practices to set up their account as soon as possible and they say they have received 2,000 initial online registrations already as a result.

The CQC warned practices against taking up offers from consultant firms offering to help with competing the process.

The letter states: ‘We have tested the form with practice managers and GPs and feedback suggests most providers should take less than two hours to complete it.'

Under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 all providers of NHS general practice and other primary medical services must be registered with the CQC by 1 April 2013.

The information practices need to register:

• the name of your provider (legal entity)

• your regulated activities (services)

• your locations

• who your registered manager(s) is, and

• if you are compliant with the essential standards
