34 – Dr Andrew Dearden

GPs will be looking to the no-nonsense, Aussie-accented Cardiff GP Dr Andrew Dearden, chair of the BMA pensions committee, to go in to bat for them in the coming months.

Having spearheaded the BMA's last battle to successfully win a judicial review over the Government's plan to cap GP pensions, the BMA Council member's encyclopedic knowledge of the subject will surely be vital to the profession with pensions under attack again following the Hutton Review's proposals to raise the GP retirement age and increase pension contributions.

Dr Dearden was previously chair of GPC Wales.
