Dr David Colin-Thomé retired from his role as the Department of Health's primary care tsar last year, but is respected enough to retain a position among the most influential GPs.
One of his final jobs was to sell the white paper to GPs.
Dr Colin- Thomé has considerable experience in the public sector having spent eleven years as a councillor, and was formerly senior medical officer at the Scottish Office and director of primary care at the North West and London regional offices. He also publishes regularly on primary care reform.
He retired as a GP in Runcorn in Cheshire in 2007.
