38 – Dr Richard Fieldhouse

Dr Richard Fieldhouse is a GP in Chichester and chief executive of the National Association of Sessional GPs.

He was instrumental in forcing the BMA to provide salaried GPs and locums with a new strengthened sub-committee after threatening to split the profession by taking his members to the rival Medical Practitioners' Union. He now sits himself on the GPC, as an MPU representative.

This year Dr Fieldhouse has been particularly active pressing for the rights of salaried GPs and locums to be involved in the formation of fledgling consortia, and he has also supported the idea of locum chambers for sessional GPs beginning to provide services.
