Dr Agnelo Fernandes is a GP in Croydon, south London, a member of the LMC and the PEC in NHS Croydon, and a commissioning leader.
As the RCGP's urgent care lead, Dr Fernandes is heavily involved in developing the college's out-of-hours policies. He was a special advisor to NHS Direct nationally and led a team that developed an ‘out-of-hours clinical toolkit' in 2007 – earlier this year he was also involved in putting together the RCGP's toolkit to help GP consortia audit the quality of urgent care services in their area.
He is also a pioneer of another key college initiative – practice federations.
In 2004 Dr Fernandes was awarded the MBE for ‘services to medicine and healthcare' in the Queen's New Year honours list.
