Acupuncture, medical journalism and helping out at the London Marathon

Our first GP registrar blogger Dr Surina Chibber has developed a surprisingly varied skill-set

My name is Surina Chibber, and I am a GP registrar on the Imperial College VTS Scheme.

I graduated from King's College School of Medicine in 2006 and initially on leaving medical school I set about to realise my ambitions of being a high flying hospital medic.

But then over the years of being a junior doctor I realised there were many aspects of general practice which offered me more in terms of adverse exposure to clinical conditions, continuity of care and better work-life balance.

So, after completing a number of intense general medical rotations and my MRCP I found myself on the Imperial College VTS scheme and I haven't looked back since.

I have spent the last two years of GP training trying to acquire a varied skill-set to help add to my career. This has included a three week stint doing voluntary medicine in a hospital in Nepal, being a medical helper in the London Marathon and being an advisor to A-Level students hoping to apply to medicine.

Over the course of my GP registrar year I am venturing into medical journalism as well as exploring acupuncture and its role in general practice. My blog will be my chance to share these opportunities as well as convey my day-to-day experiences as a registrar progressing to the completion of training.
