A clear win for new RCGP chair Dr Clare Gerada, who appears not to have been paying attention during her predecessor Professor Steve Field's classes on the rules of political engagement. Dr Gerada turned both barrels on key elements of the Government's NHS white paper during an explosive interview with Pulse to mark her first week in charge, then ramped up the rhetoric in The Guardian by claiming it was the ‘end of the NHS as we know it'.

Many grassroots GPs have reacted with glee to the college's abrupt shift in tone…. the Department of Health less so. Whichever way the wind blows, it's going to be a colourful three years for the college with Dr Gerada at the helm.
