The waiting game

DHSC unable to give timeline for when GPs can access Covid-19 antibody test

The Government will provide a breakdown for prioritisation for the new approved Covid-19 antibody test 'in due course', it has said.

This comes as Public Health England (PHE) approved the first antibody test for use in England this week, manufactured by Swiss company Roche.

In yesterday's coronavirus briefing, deputy CMO Jonathan Van-Tam said the test may be 100% accurate.

Asked by Pulse whether GPs would be prioritised for testing to see if they have already had the virus, a Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said they expect to set out plans for prioritisation when they announce the rollout of the test 'in due course'.

The news comes as NHS England recently said that symptomatic GPs should stay off work even if they have had a negative test for current Covid-19 infection, because of the worry of false negatives.

GPs can get a test to check whether they have currently got the disease via a central portal.

  • Even if you test positive it tells you nothing of value. You may be immune enough to get milder symptoms compared to your first infection but still be contagious.

  • CENSORSHIP?

    Agree Prashant
Test is pointless unless used to develop safe zones
No evidence on being immune against re-infection

    Wait for it...
    Matt Hancock:
1 We have all the tests ... but there are distribution issues
    2. The tests delivered have been found to be substandard
    3. Due course took so long ..we have decided the tests are no longer required

    4. We have met the 100 000 tests a day target.... by keeping the tests in the warehouse..and recounting on a daily basis

  • CENSORSHIP?

I suspect the ANTIGEN PCR test is the most useful
    but prohibitive by cost..
Just bite the bullet and invest in it....

    Australia ordered 1.5million antibody tests
    And tests substandard..
    ?? Bought from China

If China is found guilty of having lost control of a lab made biological weapon... maybe they should foot the bill for the worlds PPE and testing?

China says they will allow an investigation but not yet... like after the crime scene has been cleaned up...
Remember the inspections for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction..
