Exercise ‘buys elderly five extra years’ but half of Britons doing none at all, while leading suncreams found wanting

Regular exercise can have as powerful effect on life expectancy as giving up smoking, according to experts, reports the BBC.

Apparently their analysis of 5,700 elderly men in Norway found that those who did three hours of exercise a week lived around five years longer than those who were sedentary.

Brits have a long way to go according to another study reported in The Telegraph, however, as around half of the population aren’t taking any exercise at all.

The British Heart Foundation study found 44% of people admitted to not taking part in any moderate exercise – meaning British fitness levels are among the worst in Europe.

Elsewhere, The Times has news that a significant proportion of highstreet suncreams do not offer the sun protection they claim.

An investigation by the consumer magazine Which? found on 80% of SPF 30 products would pass British Standard guidelines.
